- Writes dailies for the business section about Houston’s hospitals, health care policy and insurance companies.
- A fellowship for early-career journalists with two one-year rotations at different Hearst newspapers.
- First rotation: Immigration reporter for the Albany Times Union. Second rotation: Economy reporter for the Houston Chronicle.
- Covered city government in the state’s capital, Charleston. When needed covered courts, business, breaking news and any general assignment stories.
- Covered general assignment and business. Worked on the Jailed in Crisis series, which examined the treatment of mentally ill inmates.
- Worked alongside a Virginian-Pilot reporter, collecting data, interviewing and researching for a year-long investigative project. Helped build a national database of jail deaths.
